I chose the European Private Law master because I have a passion for private law and because I wanted to gain a European perspective. And of course, I liked that the programme is located in Amsterdam. Now that I have completed the programme I can most certainly recommend it to others!
The Master’s programme attracts such a diverse group of students from all corners of the world. In my class, we had students from Bulgaria, the Netherlands, China, Serbia, Ireland and the UK, to mention only a few. Apart from being a fun addition to my social life, the diversity really added something to class discussions.
Close interaction
I also appreciated the close interaction between teachers and students. Lectures were generally quite small, and evaluation was often done through submission of papers to which we received individual feedback. The teachers took a genuine interest in the students and our development. It was through them that I discovered my interest in research, and eventually ended up with a PhD position at the CSECL.
Pursue your own interests
I liked that there was a lot of freedom within the programme. We could choose our own direction through electives and we mostly developed paper topics ourselves. This meant that we could pursue our own interest within European Private law.
A comparative perspective
I learned a lot about EU law, and I also gained comparative knowledge. Even though I had followed many equivalent courses before in Norway, it was without a doubt enriching to look at fields of law which were already familiar from an EU and a comparative perspective.
