Amsterdam Law Trials kick off

18 February 2016

The first edition of the Amsterdam Law Trials (ALT) kicked off at De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek Law firm on Friday 5 February 2016.

The ALT is a competition between honours students of the University of Amsterdam and the VU University of Amsterdam law schools. Next year both PPLE College Law Major students and Amsterdam University College students will join in as well.

Amsterdam Law Trials

Moot court and mock trials

The ALT spans a period of four months and includes a kick-off session, a moot court at the Court of Amsterdam and mock trials at the Amsterdam Court of Appeal. Solely honours students can choose to participate as lawyers or judges.

As lawyers the honours students prepare a case in teams, coached by lawyers representing the variety of the Amsterdam Bar – Prakken d'Oliveira, Spong Advocaten, Lemstra van der Korst and De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek.

As judges the honours students prepare and hear the case in chambers, coached and mentored by experienced judges from the Court of Amsterdam.

The prize, courtesy of Boom Juridische Uitgevers, is the tuition fee of a Dutch LLM.
